The evolution of aviation

How The History Of Aviation Evolved Over Time

In 1919, aviation history included lots of planes that were still around after World War I.  Since there were so many leftovers, the majority of those planes were adjusted to be used for civilians.  New airlines were established.

As the airlines were established, the planes started flying to more places, such as Africa, Europe and South America.  Even though airlines took flight here in these countries, the history of aviation shows that in the United States it took a little longer.  They had a minute amount of airlines there, but a lot of Americans were afraid to fly, hence the reasoning for the slow progress.

Around the same time within the aviation history timeline, when the Federal Government saw what was going on the airplanes, they decided to use airplanes to deliver mail.  The U.S. Postal Service was able to acquire $100,000 from Congress to do a test run.  This experiment was to include the Army and the Postal Service.

The flights to deliver mail started between Washington D.C. and New York.  In between those flights, there would be stopovers in Philadelphia.  In fact, the initial flight started from Long Island, New York to Philadelphia.  President Woodrow Wilson met the aircraft when it arrived in Washington the next day.

In 1921, beacons were used by the U.S. Army from Columbus to Dayton, Ohio.  This was a short route and the beacons were used for the pilots so they could navigate their way at night.  More beacons were added in different places by 1923.

Other places that had them installed were Chicago, Illinois and Cheyenne, Wyoming.  After additional flights, it was proven that mail could indeed fly across from city to city in record times.  These flights became an important part of aviation history for the U.S. Postal Service.

The Air Commerce Act was created 1926.  This act was put in place to allow the Secretary of Commerce to select air routes and systems to navigate the planes.  This act also involved the intervention of the Federal Government.

Congress also adjusted the pay rate for mail that was transported by air.  Instead of the mail carriers receiving a percentage, they got paid by the weight of mail they had.

Continuing onward in aviation history and the aviation history timeline, in 1927, a man named Charles Lindbergh took off on an aircraft flying across the Atlantic Ocean.  He started in New York and ended up in Paris, France.  This flight was non-stop and it was the first time in the history of aviation that anyone had accomplished such at feat.

Lindbergh was recognized in aviation history for such a great accomplishment.  Because of his flight, the history of aviation changed.  It became more open and the aviation industry received lots of money from private investors that appreciated what Lindbergh was able to accomplish.

Continuing the aviation history timeline in the 1930s, the airlines were looking for more people to get on their planes.  In order for them to attract them, their airplanes would have to be large enough to hold hundreds of people.  It would also have to employ enough speed to get people to their destination within a short period of time.  The people that designed the airplanes were able to meet the demands of the airlines and build larger and faster planes.

Nowadays, it doesn’t take forever for someone to get where they need to go on an airplane.
