Childhood Facts You Should Know About The Wright Brothers

The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, are known as the brothers who were able to build the first airplane. They were also able to make the aircraft into a controlled version to include power. Their initial plane was able to handle human cargo. They were the first team to include controls for the aircraft. These controls helped to introduce fixed wing flights.

Other facts about the Wright Brothers include that they were able to create a three-axis control. This type of control allowed the pilot to handle the aircraft and keep it steady. This was the type of control that was used on all aircrafts that had a fixed wing. As the years went by, the Wright brothers continued to make strides into solving problems that occurred during flying.

Another fact about the Wright Brothers was that they were able to create wings and propellers that could stand the test of time. They also learned additional skills that would help them with their flying ventures.

However, despite all of their accomplishments, there were others who claim that the Wright Brothers did not have the claim to fame on the aircraft industry. Many of those who opposed their success were usually their competitors.

Orville and Wilbur Wright were among seven children that were born to Milton and Susan Wright. Orville was born in Ohio and Wilbur was born in Indiana. There were three other brothers and two sisters. One of the brothers and his sister were twins that passed while they were still infants. Another sister passed away while she was in her fifties.

During the childhood of the Wright Brothers, Orville liked to be the center of attention and always managed to get himself in trouble at school. In fact, one time he caused so much trouble that he was kicked out of school. His mischief didn't stop him and his brother from achieving their goal of flying.

Their father was a bishop who was always traveling for his church. On one of his excursions, he took a helicopter home from Orville and Wilbur to play with. The toy was made of bamboo and paper.

The rotor was operated by twirling a rubberband that was on top of the toy. Both brothers played with it until it was destroyed. After that, they decided to build one for themselves. With this, the aircraft phenomenon began.

Another thing that happened during the childhood of the Wright Brothers was that Wilbur was playing hockey with friends and was hit in the face with the hockey stick. His only loss was his two front teeth.

Wilbur was considered athletic, and after this mishap, he turned away from hockey. He initially was supposed to attend Yale University, but decided not to. He also decided to stay home because his mother was afflicted with tuberculosis. In addition to that, he assisted his father with problems that were happening in their church.

Since the hockey stint didn't work out, he decided to take up the hobby of flying airplanes with his brother Orville. Orville convinced him that this would be the making of something great. Eventually, Orville's prediction was right on target and they became famous for initiating the first flight.
